Our political system has been corrupted by a decades-long, systematic effort to establish corporate and oligarchic control over every organ of the government and social institutions such as universities and think tanks.
The executive, legislative and judicial branches of government on both the state and federal level have been largely captured by big-money interests.
It is long past time to build a democratic movement to defeat corruption and bring government back into the hands of the people. In fact, the crisis of politics that confronts us is one of the most acute the nation has ever faced. This crisis of politics is made even more urgent by the fact that it comes at a time when the integrity of Earth's environment and ecosystems is deteriorating rapidly as a result of the rampant, runaway exploitation of the land and the people by an immoral plutocracy that props up the obsolete, fossil-fuel-based industrial paradigm.
Urgent action is required.
The recent history of political campaigning in the United States is specifically characterized by the rise of the use of Internet marketing and direct email methods. Organizations such as MoveOn and Democracy for America have created virtual communities of progressively-minded Americans. Yet it has become clear that, in order to effect real change, a dynamic movement that creates actual communities throughout the land is needed to form the foundation of a new level of political agency for the people.
The 2016 presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders, who has called for a political revolution as the only way to effect real change, is a clear and present opportunity to organize grassroots political structures that will transform politics on the local, state and federal level.
The purpose of this movement is to first create a dynamic insurgency within the Democratic Party that overthrows the corporate power structure that has controlled it since the 1980s, and to elect progressive candidates in all 50 states in order to bring the power back to the People.
